Something for all employers to consider are the changes to award wages that come into effect from 1 July 2014, and bring an increase in labour costs to most businesses.
The biggest change is the end of the transition period to Modern Awards, meaning all employers will now need to pay the new Modern Award rate from 1 July.
The Modern Award wages will increase by 3% effective from the first full pay period after this date, and all allowances that are expressed as a percentage in the Award will also increase by 3% from this date.
This increase will see the national minimum wage rise to $640.90 per week, or $16.87 per hour.
Also increasing in the minimum superannuation guarantee rate which will rise from 9.25% to 9.5% from 1 July.
